AWA Munford Madness Review

Crowd was pretty good seeing how NASCAR was in town, and Alabama Crimson Tide Football was on. 80 to 85 spectators on hand for event which took place in the old Munford Hugh School gym. Very kid friendly atmosphere with kids running all the place.

'Action' Mike Jackson came out about 30 mins before show to do the infamous 'Mike Jackson Raffle'. Of course since Jackson is a KING of the AL indy scene, he made sure to have XXXL Shirts. (Smarkrage would approve.) This man would sell anything and everything at an event, and probably already has.

After raffle ended, Jackson shared his testimony to the audience. Only in the South does prayer before a show where guys beat the hell out of each other gets a huge pop from crowd. As soon as prayer ends, music blares throughout the gym. It's The undefeated American Wrestling Elite Heavyweight Champion 'The Prime Minister of Pain' Johnny Slaughter who wastes NO time in reminding Mike Jackson that he has beat me all over the state and that 'Action' Mike is hiding from him BEHIND Joe Hogan and the triple threat match scheduled for later in the night between Hogan, Jackson, and Slaughter. Jackson This leads to Jackson challenging Slaughter and Jackson putting his own Alabama Heavyweight Championship on the line. Slaughter gladly accepts and leaves.
So..... No Triple Threat???

1ST Match:
Brandon Collum vs Nathan Childs

Collum stalked around ring for 2 minutes before match ever started. Brandon was
determined to wrestle at his pace; smart move. Lock up led to hip toss reversal. Collum decided to wrestle and taunt the crowd. Many heels do not understand how to work the crowd, Brandon isn't one of them. Two shoulder tackles for Collum, to no avail. The third shoulder tackle made Brandon powder for second time. During ensuing chase, Collum outsmarted Childs as he slid into ring by dropping elbow on the ribs immediately. 1st pin fall by Collum brings only a 1 count. Childs comes back and slams Brandon hard. Too close to ropes though. Every worker should know where the ropes are, even the ref. Brandon with quick kicks on Childs to break him down. Collum goes for rest hold five minutes into match. Big elbow to Collum as Childs starts to fire up. Big fallaway slam by Childs, but no cover. Instead Nathan goes up top for swanton and finds no one home. Right after Collum hits his signature leg jaw breaker, music hits...... Out comes Pro South's own Ace and Amy Haven. Nathan takes advantage and rolls Collum up for 1-2-3 via school boy. Winner at 7 Minutes 18 seconds Nathan Childs. Ace runs in the ring as Collum powders. Now here's where having a vet to pull you aside helps. It went unnoticed by most BUT Ace Haven proceeds to say, not once but twice, that Pro South is the 'premiere' wrestling around..... wait you just showed up, as a babyface to a show, and put ANOTHER show over as the premiere wrestling show. DEFINITELY a no no, but crowd recognized Ace and Amy and didn't even care.

2nd Match:

Joey Sartain vs 'Doink' the Clown

Sartain is legit scared of clowns which made this a funny combo. Ref starts checking the wrestlers, AFTER the bell. Then calls for second bell 15 seconds after first bell. "Doink" breaks out Flair strut, so what does ref do?? CALLS FOR BELL FOR THIRD TIME!! Sartain wastes no time in screaming, 'How many times you going to ask for bell ref?' "Doink starts with collar and elbow tie up, then stomps Joey's toe. Right before next lock up? Toe stomp. Third lock up attempt for Sartain... toe stomp for your troubles. Follwed up by a HUGE open hand slap across the face from "Doink." as Sartain pops up, "Doink" hits a single leg take down into an air guitar using Joey's leg. Joey jumps to his feet only to have both ears grabbed by "Doink" into a subsequent ear/head lock takeover. Then two quick two count falls are followed up by "Doink" pulling himself off pin then throwing ref on Sartain and counting quick two before Joey kicks out, Crowd goes bananas. Sartain jumps to his feet and uses this opening to take over. Joey wastes too much time on picking up "Doink" which he turns into a quick armdrag hurling Sartain to outside. Then chase around ring ensues as "Doink" goes outside after Joey, who drops huge elbow on "Doink" as he slides back in ring. Finally 6 minutes 49 seconds into match and we have first true heat. Joey relentless with stomps and kicks. As he poses to fans, "Doink" gets near fall with school boy on Joey. "Doink" Irish whips Sartain into corner and hits Clothesline from The Carnival (Hell). Only 2 count. As "Doink" picks Joey up, Sartain hits quick ddt; 2 count. Joey eyes the top rope and takes FOREVER to get up top. Joey goes for splash and "Doink" moves. Punch, punch, followed up by calf kick by "Doink" gets two count. Sartain throws "Doink's" arms off, goes for clothesline, "Doink" ducks and hits Angle Slam for 1-2-3. Winner at 13 minutes 55 seconds: "Doink" the Clown.

Slaughter throws clothesline, Jackson ducks and hits flying head scissors. Slaughter is a bumping machine. Jackson hits single leg takedown and starts working arm. Clothesline ducked leads to hip toss on Slaughter. Jackson right back to working arm. Jackson doe his signature walk the rope tomahawk chop. Slaughter hits a vicious clothesline to take over. Slaughter sees blood in the water. Snake eyes into the corner followed up by side Russian leg sweep leads to a two count AFTER Jackson rolls to ropes (very good vet move) which causes Slaughter to waste time dragging Jackson back to middle of ring. Undeterred,  Slaughter puts the boots to Mike. Then comes a Camel Clutch that The Iron Sheik would be proud of. Slaughter lets up. Slaughter Irish whips 'Action' Mike. Mike ducks clothesline only to find Johnny waiting on him with the 'kitchen sink' knee lift. Kitchen Sink and Snake Eyes in one match. Beautiful. Jackson fights back, off the ropes, he is met by a spinning side walk slam by Slaughter. Only a two count. Slaughter goes up top and misses the Alabama Jam. Jackson starts hitting snap jabs to the chin of Johnny who ducks the last one only to be hit with a spinning neckbreaker for his troubles. The momentum sends 'Action' Mike to the outside. Jackson gets up to apron at ref's count of seven. Mike goes for sunset flip into ring on Slaughter, but Johnny drops his weight onto Mike's shoulders and grabs middle rope for good measure. 1-2-3. New Alabama Heavyweight Champion 'The Prime Minister of Pain' Johnny Slaughter.  BUT... Joe Hogan comes to the ring, announces Slaughter cheated and reverses the ref's decision. Mike grabs belt and gets out of ring. Slaughter screams he's tired of Joe. Joe responds by saying he'll give Slaughter a match against him since he's so mad. Johnny Slaughter, now has to face two Alabama legends back-to-back. What was promoted as a triple threat has now become two matches. As Hogan leaves the ring from announcing the new match, 'Action' Mike Jackson wastes no time in starting the 2nd raffle of the night.

Intermission

Main Event
Daniel Alexander & Nasty McWilliams vs 'Iceman' Rod Storm & Damon Taz

Alexander and Damon start the tag team match that was the main event of the evening. Immediately Daniel sticks upper body through ropes to get ref to back Taz up. Am arm wrench followed by arm breaker when they did finally lock up, lead to Alexander powdering. Next tie up, Alexander tries to bite Damon, but Taz knows better. Taz ties up with Alexander and over powers the rookie. Then headbutts him, then immediately back to the arm. Damon is a machine. Taz then spins Daniel around and does a tango. Daniel breaks free to argue this is illegal. Taz grabs ref and tangoes with ref. Crowd loved it. Then Alexander tries to out wrestle the vet. Not happening. Daniel now decides to overpower Taz. Back-to-back shoulder tackles put Alexander on his back as Damon laughs. Alexander then says he can out run Damon... Both start running ropes. After second crossover Damon yells 'Look up!' Daniel does, and Taz slaps the taste out of his mouth. Nasty comes to aid of his partner. Storm comes in and the babyfaces clear house. Alexander and McWilliams powder but Daniel gets too close and is helped in ring by Taz... by his hair. Quick tag by Storm and double hip toss to Alexander, but no pin attempt. Storm comes in at Daniel and is met with thumb to the eye. McWilliams comes in and starts putting the boots to Storm. Few good tags by Alexander and McWilliams on Storm. Missed clothesline by Nasty leads to multiple jumping clotheslines by Storm. Tag leads to a double back bodydrop on Nasty. a 300 lb man flying 10 feet in air, wow! Alexander finally gets tag after Nasty finally gets opening. Furry of cheating behind ref's back and even a little using of tag rope as a choke. Taz has to make save several times for his partner Storm. Alexander tries for the jumping choke on middle rope but misses. Both men down. Taz comes in as a house on fire. Crowd goes crazy. Taz clotheslines Nasty and flips the 300 lb man in the air. Crowd eats it up! Then out of nowhere as Taz charges Nasty, McWilliams snatches Taz up into a powerslam but no cover. Instead, as most have done tongiht, Nasty wants to fly. He goes up top. 300 lb moonsault on Taz. Nasty decides no pin. He looks around.... and bumps the ref!!! For some reason, with match won, Nasty McWilliams, bumps the ref. Nasty and Daniel then turn attention to Rod Storm. They beat the man all around the gym. Finally "Doink" makes the save with a chair. Crowd doesnt react when it is announced Taz and Storm won by DQ, they're too bust screaming about Nasty and Daniel being in the building still somewhere. Standing ovation as Storm is helped to the back. Weird ending. But winner in 17 minutes 36 seconds: Damon Taz and 'Iceman' Rod Storm.

Pretty good show. I give it an 89%. Better than some Raws, Smackdowns, and Impacts  of recent memory. Some of these guys have to get better gear and ending of show shouldnt get a reaction like that. They should either be happy or pissed off to come back. Fans tonight were little confused. Lot of young talent and potential for the event.
